David J. Woods

David J. Woods, age 89 of Deerfield, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 at the Cambrian Assisted Living Facility in Tecumseh. He was born May 13, 1931 in Ypsilanti, to Stanley and Josephine (Gibson) Woods. Dave was a graduate of Deerfield High School and Michigan State University. On December 17, 1953, he married Rita Mueller in Deerfield and she survives. 

Dave spent most of his life farming the family farm in Deerfield, retiring 20 years ago. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield. Dave sang in a barbershop quartet for 60 years and enjoyed community theater and taking pictures of family and wildlife. Traveling all over the world was also something Dave loved to do. 

Surviving Dave is his wife, Rita; a son, Jason (Megan) Woods of Tecumseh; four daughters, Kimberly Woods-McCormick (Ronald) of Eaton, Colo.; Karla Woods of Deerfield; Lisa Woods of Tecumseh; and Jessica (Matthew) Sandler of Buenos Aires, Argentina; a brother, Samuel (Lila) Woods of Wooster, Ohio; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents (who raised him), a grandson, Zach, and a brother Johnny who died at age two.

Funeral services for Dave were held on Saturday, April 24, at 12 p.m. at Light of Christ Parish, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield with Fr. Jeff Poll presiding. Visitation was also held on Saturday at the church. Burial followed in Deerfield Cemetery.
