Diane “Dee” Jeanne O’Brien

Diane “Dee” Jeanne O’Brien, age 88 of Tipton passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2023 at the Hospice of Lenawee Home in Adrian. She was born December 22, 1934 in Jackson, Mich., a daughter of the late Winthrop N. and Isadore M. (Hill) Winfield. On January 9, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Dee married Charles Jerome “Jerry” O’Brien and they shared 68 years together before his passing on August 28, 2021.

Dee graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1952 and continued her education at Jackson Business University. She was a secretary for Rex B. Martin and the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, retiring from the church on December 31, 1984. Dee was a member of the Grey Ladies of the Red Cross, a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed doing genealogy and volunteered at the Lenawee County Museum, Tecumseh District Library and Adrian District Library.

Dee is survived by her children, Calleen (George) Troyer of Tecumseh, Maureen (Shawn) Dalton of Goodrich, Ariz., Michael (Amy) O’Brien of Belleville, Patrick (Michele) O’Brien of Oak Creek, Wisc., and Timothy O’Brien of Manitou Beach; sister, Carole (Larry) Viles of Manitou Beach; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.  

Visitation for Dee will be on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 2-6 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church with Pastor Jodi Cartwright officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tecumseh United Methodist Church or Hospice of Lenawee. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
