Donald “Doby” Stephen Dobrosky

Donald “Doby” Stephen Dobrosky, age 82 of Tecumseh passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. He was born June 20, 1939 in Orange, N.J., the son of the late Steve and Bertha (Gunn) Dobrosky. On October 29, 1965 he married his soul mate, Kay Ellen Schultz, and she preceded him in death on July 21, 1981.

Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He graduated with two Bachelor degrees, one from Lake Forrest College in Illinois and the other from Skidmore College.  He formerly owned Doby’s Donuts Shop in Tecumseh. He was a former Mason and was very active in Al-Anon in years past. Music was his life, being a percussionist, substitute teacher, and teaching private percussion instruction throughout southeast Michigan. With his love of music and teaching he founded the National Home School Ensemble. He was well respected in many musical ensembles, including Tecumseh Pops, Adrian City Band, Dexter Big Band, and has graced both the Croswell and Civic Auditorium with his drumming and conducting for many years.

Donald is survived by his children, Patrick Dobrosky of Boyne City, Mike Day of Fort Wayne, Ind., Dani Day of Tecumseh, Elizabeth E. Schultz (Dobrosky) of Holland and Donald (Kristina) Dobrosky of Tecumseh; a beloved special friend, Katherine O. Johnson of Ann Arbor; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents and wife, Kay, he was preceded in death by a son Russell.

Visitation for Donald was held from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The funeral service was at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Hawkins officiating. Burial was in Macon Cemetery.
