Donald Dean Craig
Donald Dean Craig, age 87 of Tecumseh passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022 at Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital in Adrian. He was born May 5, 1935 in Tecumseh, son of the late Donald Samuel and Bessie Irene (Dunbar) Craig. He spent his early childhood in Macon and enjoyed reminiscing about his years there. On September 30, 1961 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tecumseh he married Judith Ann Baxter and they have shared 61 happy years together.
Dean proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany, and had many wonderful memories of those days. Returning home, he began a 37-year career at the Tecumseh Post Office, moving from substitute carrier up to assistant postmaster. He spent the last 17 years as a rural carrier, a job he loved. Dean was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1962, where he was involved in various roles serving as leader of the Lutheran Boy Pioneers and as a member of the church council for many years. He was a former member of the Jaycees.
As a man who never met a stranger in his life, he loved to travel, see new places and meet people. Dean and Judy started traveling with their daughters in a pop-up in 1968 and ended their days on the road in a fifth-wheel in 2016. They traveled to every state and also enjoyed many trips abroad and cruises with friends.
Besides his wife Judy, Dean is survived by two daughters, Diane (David) Bloom of Chelsea and Lisa Craig of Ann Arbor; sister, Darlene Wood of Port Richey, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Sharon Baxter of Brooklyn and Linda (Dan) DeVincenzo of Fairfax, Calif.; four grandchildren, Cara (Dhruv) Bloom of Pittsburgh, Penn., Audrey Bloom of Chelsea, Elizabeth Davis-Craig and Robert Davis-Craig both of Ann Arbor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Donna Bartram and Barbara Cole; brothers-in-law, Milton Bartram, Robert Wood and Ron Baxter; and his in-laws Oakley and Monema Baxter.
In accordance with Dean’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Brookside Cemetery Columbarium. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.
