Donna Scarbrough

Donna Scarbrough, 87, of Tecumseh, Mich. and formerly of Pompano Beach, Fla. passed away August 21, 2022 one day short of her 88th birthday.

Donna was born on August 22, 1934 to the late Elmer and Irene Mildred Burleson. 

Donna is survived by her daughter, LouAnn (Thomas) Briggs; grandchildren, Caitlyn Frisco, Erin Cosgrove, Deidre Finke, and Shannon Stewart; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Connor, Alec, and Morgan; sister, Mary Lou Bale; and nieces and nephews Marsha Oenick, David, and Jimmy Bale. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph Scarbrough, daughter, Lucy Cosgrove, twin sons, Ralph E. and James B. Scarbrough, and granddaughter, Melanie Lynn Briggs.

Donna worked as a switch- board operator in Tecumseh, Mich. where her small daughter, LouAnn delighted in hearing her mother ask “number please.” She worked as a secretary, some years as a retail clerk for Sears, and then later as the store manager for Motherhood Maternity in Toledo and then in Florida until her retirement.

Donna enjoyed sewing, doing machine embroidery as well as crocheting. She made many beautiful things including daughter Lucy’s wedding gown and her granddaughter’s baby booties. She was a member of the American Embroidery Conference and did charity work with them for Children in Distress in Florida. Donna was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Florida, and enjoyed going bowling and playing bingo. She loved all the cats she adopted over the years from the Humane Society. She would only take the oldest/handicapped ones no one else would adopt. 

Per Donna’s request, there will be no services.

Memorial contributions in Donna’s honor may be gifted to your local humane society or to the Humane Ohio located in Toledo, Ohio.
