Dorothy Osburn

Dorothy Osburn, aged 95, died August 25, 2023 under the loving care of daughter Martha, her husband, Jerry, and Hospice of Lenawee. She married Robert H. Osburn Sr., who preceeded her in death. Together they raised and are survived by three children: Bob Jr (Susan), Martha (Marty) (Jerry) Richter, and Ben. Dorothy is also survived by seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
She was born February 18, 1928 to George and Ernestine (Leutheuser) Schumm in Lansing, Mich., and spent her growing up years in Somerset Center and Tecumseh, Mich. She graduated in 1945 from Tecumseh High School.
Besides her first and most beloved calling as a mother, she worked at The Tecumseh Herald and Tecumseh Products, Lenawee County’s unemployment office, as a real estate agent with Faust Realty and as a greeter for Walmart.
She was an avid reader, lover of Scrabble, crossword puzzles, and word searches. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, and gardening. She was a wonderful and loving encourager who prioritized her family. In 2005, her faith in Jesus Christ was re-ignited, and she became active in church and Bible study. Dorothy made a final tribute to us all by donating her body to science at the University of Michigan.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on September 23 with a memorial service following at 12 p.m. at Tipton Congregational Community Church in Tipton, Mich. A luncheon will follow at the fellowship hall. Memorial gifts may be sent to Wilberforce International Institute (PO Box 130551, St. Paul, MN 55113), or Tipton Community Church.
