Elaine J. Baker

Elaine J. Baker, age 88, of Novi, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away peacefully Monday, March 25, 2024, at Novi Lakes Health Campus.

Born October 20, 1935, in Adrian, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Russell and Edna (Hardesty) Lawhead. Elaine married Merle Baker on August 30, 1956, at the Ridgeway Nazarene Church.

Elaine’s green thumb was evident to all who witnessed the vibrant blooms adorning her garden, a testament to her passion for flower gardening.  She also enjoyed baking magnificent deserts and was known for her pie crusts, cheesecakes, chocolate bowls and many other delicious treats.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Merle. Loving mother of Bradley (Pamela) Baker, Michael (Tina) Baker and Heather (Brian) Baker; beloved grandmother of Krista (Dan) Probelski, Katie, Kyle, Teresa, Jessica (Josh) Leininger, Justin, Braden and Sean and cherished great-grandmother of six; dearest sister to her twin brother, Elden (Fran) Lawhead and Sharon (Floyd) Avery, and the late Janet (Clarence) Hinch.

A memorial service for Elaine is planned for Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m. (gathering beginning at 10 a.m.) at Hilltop Church of the Nazarene, 21260 Haggerty Rd., between 8 and 9 Mile Roads, Northville.

A graveside service for Elaine and Merle will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh, Mich. The cemetery entrance is located off M-50 at the corner of M-52. All are invited to join the family for this final tribute.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Elaine’s honor.
