Elizabeth Rathke

Elizabeth Rathke passed away on June 8, 2022. Betty was born November 21, 1932, daughter of John (Meszaros) and Helen (Nagy) in Detroit. She graduated from Dundee High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Howard Rathke, on September 16, 1950 and they had five children, Karen, John (Dorothy), Dave (Heidi), Sharon (Ren), and Chris. Also, she was a grandmother to two grandsons, John Jr. (Jade) and Daniel; and she had two great-granddaughters, Riley and Casey. Howard preceded her in death in 2005.

Foremost, she was a devoted wife and mother to her family and loved to cook and bake, collect recipes, and even canned vegetables. Betty had a Hungarian heritage and her cooking and baking skills excelled with the best of them. She was a big fan of John Wayne and watching his movies. Her favorite song was “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” by B.J. Thomas.

She never put herself in front of family and others. Betty was a member of the St. Elizabeth Parish and devout to the Catholic faith. She gave of her time by volunteering, made homemade pies, donated to different charities and ministries, and sold over 1,000 raffle tickets for the parish’s annual roast beef dinner.
