Frances Cleland

Frances Cleland, age 89, with her family by her side went to be with her Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023. She was born April 30, 1934 to Lloyd Williams and Follis Leona (Gainous) Pippin. While working at a bank she met a very handsome man. On May 4, 1958 she married Willard Claude Cleland. They shared over 59 years together before he passed on April 4, 2018. After retiring, Frances and Willard volunteered with Gleaners and Hidden Lake Gardens. They were also members of Grace Bible Church in Tecumseh.

Frances is survived by her children, Sherri (Kenneth) Achtenberg, Willard Claude (Judi) Cleland, Jr. and Mary (Brian) Finkbeiner; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Showalter. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She loved gardening, especially flowers, watching her grandchildren play sports, and cooking for family and friends. She will be missed by many. She was truly one of a kind.

Visitation will be held at Grace Bible Church on the corner of M-50 and Carson Highway in Tecumseh on September 11 at 3 p.m. with the funeral service following at 4 p.m. with Pastor Lawrence LaFollette officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or Grace Bible Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home.
