George Fiegel

George Edward Fiegel, age 88 of Tecumseh passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Blissfield Place Assisted Living.  He was born January 19, 1935 in Saline, the son of the late Enoch Gottlieb and Hazel D. (Schroen) Fiegel.  On May 28, 1976 in Ann Arbor, he married Nellie Mae Gardner and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2011.

George drove truck for several trucking companies starting with Rumpf Truck Lines, Duff Truck Lines and then with OK Trucking and he also was a volunteer for the Pittsfield Fire Dept.   He hauled the Sunday night mail runs in the Detroit and Ann Arbor Areas and after retirement, also drove for Don Wade Enterprises, and did the bakery run for Busch’s. His love for trucking allowed his love for NASCAR to come together by driving the souvenir truck for several of the drivers including Mark Martin and Kyle Petty. He attended the Tecumseh Church of Christ. George loved model trains, camping and was a part of the Saddle ,Tramps Camping Club and the Ann Arbor Jaycees.  He loved tinkering with anything and taking things apart.

George is survived by his two daughters, Gina (Rick) Ireland of Canton and Gloria (Bill Reed) Fiegel of Chelsea; sister, Marilyn Anderson of Saline; three grandchildren, Jeremy Ireland of Imperial Beach, CA, Robin Ireland of Canton and Erik F. (Krista) Langen of Grass Lake; five great grandchildren, Jameson, Evelyn, Andrew, Everett and Audrey; one step great granddaughter, Hannah Blakely of Carrollton, GA; and niece, Debbie (Rick) Peterson of Poway, CA.

Visitation for George was held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 3-7 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.  Funeral services were held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Tecumseh Church of Christ with Vince Gonzales officiating. Cremation followed the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to God’s Bread Basket, Blissfield Place and Little Mews Rescue in Tecumseh.
