Gladys Louise Tilton

Gladys Louise Tilton, age 82 of Tecumseh went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a brief illness on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at the Hospice of Lenawee Home in Adrian with her family by her side. She was born June 24, 1940 in Jackson, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruby (Hicks) Mitchell. On December 10, 1960 at Rives Baptist Church in Rives Junction she married George “Bud” R. Tilton and they have been blessed with 62 years of marriage.

Gladys was a registered nurse, working at Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh before becoming the nurse at the Porter Center where she retired after 26 years.  For the past 29 years she has been the co-owner of Tilton and Sons Shoes in Tecumseh enjoying her time working there. She was a charter member of Grace Point Evangelical Free Church in Adrian and taught Sunday school for many years. Gladys loved the Lord and loved sharing her faith with those around her. She loved to help people and didn’t hesitate to show her love for them. She was a supporter of the 4-H programs in Lenawee County for many years. Gladys enjoyed family vacations and loved spending time gardening. Most of all she was a loving and devoted grandma to her grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Bud, Gladys is survived by her children, JoLynne (Jim) Bleecker of Adrian; Tim Tilton of Tecumseh; and Todd (Stacey) Tilton of Tecumseh; sister, Gloria (Joe) Kelly of Jackson; six grandchildren, Jason (Kara) Bleecker of Adrian, Justin (Shemeko) Bleecker of Lambertville, Jonathan (Hannah) Bleecker of Clover, SC, Jennifer Bleecker of Peabody, MA, Austin Tilton of Tecumseh and Drew Tilton of Tecumseh; five great-grandchildren, Libby, Maylee, Aurora, Keirstin and Nellie Bleecker.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, George and Gladys Tilton.

Visitation for Gladys will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Grace Point Evangelical Free Church in Adrian. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Jeff Barbieri officiating with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Point Evangelical Free Church and Hospice of Lenawee. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
