Janie Lee Engle

Janie Lee Engle, age 87 of Tecumseh, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022 at Hospice of Lenawee Home in Adrian. She was born February 22, 1935 in Hodges, Ala., a daughter of the late George Witherspoon and Mamie Alieen (Victory) Williford. On July 2, 1951 in Mississippi, she married W.T. Engle, and they shared 57 years together until his passing on November 5, 2008.

Janie retired from General Motors Company after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Adrian and Tecumseh Church of Christ, serving as a Sunday school teacher and helping with the Jubilees. She was very active in the Democratic Party and the U.A.W. Janie loved to sew, canning, and being outdoors gardening among her flowers. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

Janie is survived by her children, Sheila (Tom) Drouillard of Tecumseh, Kelvin (Pat) Engle of LaPeer, and Wayland (Jamie) Engle of Richardson, Texas; nine grandchildren, Sherry (Eric) Kirk, Tonia (Russell) Hawkins, Melissa (Rick) Eichenberg, Jessica Belcher, Joe (Cindy) Engle, Lucy (Chris) Higginbotham, Michelle (Alex Spitzer) Engle, Kristen (Zoey) Hoggatt and Alyssa Engle; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob Kirk, Tanner Hawkins, Shaylinn Drouillard, Landyn Eichenberg, Isaac and Hudson Engle, Emelia and Haley Higginbotham and Jace and Aurora Hoggatt. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Waymond, Guy, Rex, J.T., Troy and K.V., and three sisters, Ethel, Loie and Ruth.

Visitation for Janie was from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Tecumseh Church of Christ. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the church with Minister Tim Dunn officiating. Burial was in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee and the Adrian Church of Christ.
