John Sutka

John Sutka, 79, of South Lyon, formerly of Tecumseh, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 28, 2022, after a brief illness. John was fiercely passionate about his relationship with God from the start and dedicated his life to both his pursuit of God and his family.

After he graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Wyandotte, Mich., John landed his first job in the United States Coast Guard. This kickstarted a career and love for boating and he spent a few years as a private boat captain. Later he spent 30+ years working for and retired from DTE. In 1967, John met his wife, Judith and went on to have three children. John put family first, always, and was a dedicated father.

John was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family.

John was also a passionate golfer and boating enthusiast. He spent most of his retirement with his wife Judi golfing and traveling to Florida to visit his sister, Marilyn (Ken) Way, along with enjoying his family and friends. John was predeceased by his brothers Thomas and Robert and leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Judi; his son, Todd (Gwen) Sutka of Onsted; daughters, Melanie (Bryan) Crutchfield of Rochester Hills, and Sarah (Dave) Carr of Novi; along with eight grandchildren, Brandon Sutka, Connor, Kyle and Claire Crutchfield, Nicholas, Alison and Abigail Sutka and Garrett Carr.

Visitation for John will be held on Friday, Feb. 4, from 4-7 p.m at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Mortimer officiating and visitation from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery with Military honors under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and VFW Post #4187. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
