John W. Basinger

John Warren Basinger, age 77, of Tecumseh, Mich. passed away on Saturday, Dec.16, 2023 at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on December 9, 1946, a son of the late Kenneth and Mary Norma (Froehlich) Basinger. On July 11, 1985 he married Angie Nesci and they have shared over 38 years together.

John worked as a teacher, coach and financial advisor during the course of his life. He was a member of the U of M Club of Ann Arbor. John loved football, especially U of M football. He coached football in Charlotte, Morenci and Tecumseh. While he was in school he played football, baseball and basketball and then went on to play football at Olivet College. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf. John loved his grandchildren very much, was a wonderful father, grandfather and husband.

Along with his wife, Angie, John is survived by his four children, Meg Richie of Adrian, Mich., Jim (Heather) Chapp of Caledonia, Mich., Amy (Matthew) Blaisdell of Zionsville, Ind. and John (Raven) Basinger of Littleton, Co.; 11 grandchildren, Maranda and Lucas Richie, Spencer and Parker Chapp, Zachary, Trevor and Ella Blaisdell and James, Ryland, Greyson and Gwenyth Basinger; and one great-grandchild, Marianna Duclos. Along with his parents, Kenneth Basinger and Mary Norma Aho, he is preceded in death by the father that raised him, Paul Aho and a sister, Margaret Baird.

Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 3-5 p.m. and 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Shotsky officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mott’s Children’s Hospital and The Wounded Warrior Project. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
