Karen E. Travis

8/3/1956-3/18/2022

On March 18, 2022, Karen passed peacefully in the arms of her husband at University of Michigan Hospital with the view she had for decades of her career. In her final days, she was surrounded with love from her close family and friends. Karen was greeted in heaven by her sister, Cheryl, and her grandparents.

Karen will be remembered as a woman who loved her children fiercely. From the smallest accomplishments to the biggest moments, Karen was always overwhelmed with pride for her children.

Karen was gifted in the art of crocheting. Each time a family member or friend had a baby, Karen was given a new project to do. She loved to create handmade toys and sweaters for the babies of her loved ones. Beyond her craftsmanship, she loved to share her “baby whisperer” skills. She helped countless loved ones navigate parenthood.

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Eric. She is lovingly remembered by her three children, Ashley (Anton), Ross, and Jillian, and her granddaughter Anya. She is also survived by countless friends and community members who cared deeply for her.

Before her passing, Karen expressed that she wanted a happy celebration of life, rather than a sad funeral. Visitation will be held by Handler Funeral Home in Tecumseh on Sunday, April 24, from 1- 4 p.m. Prayers and remembrance offered at 4 p.m. We’d love for people to come share stories or funny memories with our family. We do not want the past few weeks of heartbreak to outshine the beautiful life she had.
