Lilly Ilene (Butler) Robinson

Lilly Ilene (Butler) Robinson passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 9 after offering her family and friends her love. Born July 7, 1940 in Milford, Mich., Lilly married the love of her life, Robert Kwen Robinson, in July 1961; they enjoyed 40 years of marriage before he passed in June 2002.

Lilly is survived by her sons, Robert Robinson of Gaylord and Rex Robinson and Michelle Peet of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Spencer Robinson and Sarah Beatty of Chicago, Taylor Robinson and Daniel Atoche-Juarez of Dearborn, Houghton Robinson and Kaitlyn Moe of Gaylord, Troy and Nichole Raymond with great-grandchildren Aiden and Leah of Tucson; her twin brother, Martin and Connie Butler of Napoleon; sister, Caroline Merwin of Westland; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Fernandez of Washington D.C., brother-in-law, David and Lynne Robinson of Grosse Isle; beloved cousin, Marilyn Tanguay of Romeo; and many adored nieces, nephews, and ‘adopted’ grandchildren, especially Elyse Corley Butler and Scott Corley. Unbelievably loving and present, Lilly was a second mother and grandmother to many more throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Iris Butler, and her brother, James Butler.

Lilly’s passion was caring for others, often driving long distances to show up to help, while looking great, too! When not spending time with family, “Diamond Lil” loved seeing shows, salon and bowling Thursdays, her bunko group, and road trips with Elvis turned up loud enough to sing along. Lilly enjoyed 24 years working for Hunter Moving and Storage, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and card-carrying member of most of the casinos dotting the Midwest.

Lilly’s family will welcome visitors on Saturday, May 13 from 1-6 p.m., with a brief service at 5 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home. If desired, memorial donations in Lilly’s honor may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Michigan. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
