Lloyd L. Borsvold

Lloyd Lindeman Borsvold, age 93 of Tecumseh, passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023 at home. He was born September 13, 1930 in Highland Park, a son of the late Oscar I. and Clara (Halvorsen) Borsvold. Lloyd was a proud third generation Norwegian American. On August 24, 1957 in Evansville, Ind. he married Margaret Ann Webb and they have shared 66 years together.

Lloyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was involved in the first hydrogen bomb test in the South Pacific. During his service he served on two destroyers, the USS Fechteler and USS Renshaw.  

Lloyd was raised in the Lutheran Church, St. Olaf in Detroit, originally Norwegian Lutheran now ELCA. He was confirmed in 1944 and is one of a “quartet” of friends, all 92-93 years old, until this year with Lloyd and Bob going to heaven. St. Olaf Church’s pastor was honored by the King of Norway for the support of their people during WWII.  

In his early years Lloyd worked for Complete Auto Service hauling Corvairs around various locations across the country, and retired from Livonia Public Schools after 28 years as a custodian. He enjoyed working on machinery, especially cars, singing in the church and community choirs, most recently the Lenawee Community Chorus. Lloyd loved history and was an avid reader. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors and the American Legion.

Besides his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his children, Eric (Ann) Borsvold of Tecumseh, Keith (Donna) Borsvold of Wayne, Gregory Borsvold of Boise, Idaho. and Mark Borsvold of Spring Hill, Tenn.; two brothers, Gordon Borsvold of Calumet and Harold Borsvold of Gregory; five grandchildren, Amy (Wess) Crockett, Brandon (Krystle) Borsvold, Brett Borsvold, Lindsey (Bill) Waterman and Derek Borsvold; six great- grandchildren, Ashton and Brody Crockett, Owen and Evan Borsvold and Rheya and Edward Waterman; two foster great-grandchildren, Vinny and Anthony; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and wonderful neighbors.

In accordance with Lloyd’s wishes cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
