Lottie C. Martin

Lottie C. Martin, a long-time resident of Tecumseh, died at age 106 on December 20, 2021 at Tecumseh Place. She was born on October 30, 1915 in Archbold, Ohio to Mary and Emanuel Short. She had three sisters, Julie Zuver, Lorna Nisely and Marjorie Morey, and three brothers, Charles, Maurice and Hubert who proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. She lived with her family on a farm near Archbold. During the depression, the family could be depended on to help neighbors by sharing vegetables, eggs and meat. She resided there until marrying husband, Donald R. Martin, on May 15, 1935. They were married for 73 years.

Lottie was very active in her community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, serving on many committees and functions. Within the community she could be seen assisting on fundraising drives. She delivered Meals on Wheels to seniors and loved the interaction with all people. She also worked with her husband for years at Martin’s Home Center, formally Gambles.

Lottie is survived by her daughter, Janet (James) Springer of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Kelly Scheytt, David (Linda) Martin, and Jenny (Chris) Clarke; nine great-grandchildren, Brandon Knight, Jacob Knight, Erica (Jake) Jackowski, Samantha Scheytt, Britney and Derek Martin, and Cameron, Carter and David Clarke; seven great-great-grandchildren, Ethan Tabbert, Ryan Knight, Evi Enderes, Faelina Knight, Joseph, Joshua and Jeremiah Jackowski. Besides her parents, husband and siblings, she was preceded in death by her son, DJ Martin.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services with Pastor Darrell Bozeman officiating and burial in Brookside Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
