Martha Rebottaro

Martha Rebottaro, age 90, of Tecumseh, left us to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022. She was born on February 22, 1931 in Ecorse, Mich., the daughter of the late Eugene and Gabriella (Kotan) Kossey. On July 8, 1950 she married Louis Anthony Rebottaro and they shared 55 years together before his passing in 2005. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church for over 75 years and served on the Altar Society for many years. Martha’s first job was assisting in her family’s butcher shop. After graduating high school, Martha became a telephone operator before marrying Louie. The remainder of her work life was spent in the service-to-others industry either as a waitress, cook, or cafeteria worker, intermittently raising their four children.

As long as her children can remember Martha loved volunteering in her community and did so joyfully in the areas of human services, privately aiding the elderly with meals before Meals on Wheels was conceptualized, then many years with Meals on Wheels, the Arbor Society, and was a former board member of the Tecumseh Senior Center. For entertainment she loved reading, gardening, traveling, attending seminars, cheering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on at their sporting events, and later in life, socializing at the Senior Center. Martha also loved playing any card game with anyone but she was especially fond of her “card party group” that she and Louie participated in for over 50 years.

She is survived by her children, Louis (Brenda) Rebottaro of Tecumseh, Carol (Mike) Garcia of Tecumseh, Beverly (Guy) Gallardo of Toledo and Rose (Victor “Tito”) Soto of Aurora, ILL.; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, a brother, and Mike (Mary) Kossey of Tecumseh.  Along with her husband, Louie, and her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Greene and Betty Hannah.

Visitation for Martha will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. at the church with visitation from 10 am until time of the service. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Raisin Township Fire Dept. and the Tecumseh Senior Center. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
