Mary Agnes Bowers (Goodman), age 97 of Tecumseh passed away on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023 at Cambrian Assisted Living. She was married to Dr. Robert John Bowers on November 18, 1950 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh. They had shared 71 wonderful years together until his passing on December 16, 2021.
Mary worked for United Savings Bank (Old National Bank) for 31 years, beginning as a teller and eventually moving her way up to vice president. She was a past president of the Lenawee County Bankers Association. She was the first woman ever elected to the Tecumseh City Council, she was also a member and past director of the Tecumseh Area Chamber of Commerce. She was a very active member of the Tecumseh community.
Mary attended Boston Merchandising School. In 1967 she graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the only woman in her graduation class. Mary enjoyed golf, tennis, walking and biking. She and Bob both ran in the Detroit Marathon. They were members of the Tecumseh Country Club since 1952.
Mary is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In accordance to Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
