Mary Jeanne Tietsema

Mary Jeanne Tietsema, age 79, of Oscoda, Mich., formerly of Tecumseh, Mich. passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City, Mich. She was born on October 11, 1943 in Tecumseh, Mich., the daughter of the late Leonard E. and Arnetta M. (Wright) Lewis. On August 31, 1963 she married Tim Tietsema in Tecumseh and they have shared over 59 years together.

Mary graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1961 and went on to attend Central Michigan University. Together with her husband she helped run Land Surveying Consultants as the office manager. Mary was a member of the New Apostolic Church since 1963 where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Oscoda Garden Club and loved gardening along with walks on the beach, but most of all she loved her grandkids and spending time with them.

Along with her husband Tim, Mary is survived by her children, Melissa (Steven) Tee and Ryan (Sandra) Tietsema, both of Grass Lake, Mich.; a brother, Ronald (Eileen) Lewis of Concord, Mich.; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Tietsema of Livonia, Mich., Megan (Thomas) Watt of Oakland, Ky., Jacob Tietsema, Tyler Tee and Matthew Tietsema all of Grass Lake, Mich.; one great-grandson, Bennett Watt of Oakland, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edwin Lewis.

A funeral service for Mary will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, at The New Apostolic Church, 4844 Jackson Rd., Suite 200, Ann Arbor, Mich. at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tim Rettberg officiating and Rev. Steven Tessmer assisting. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service. Immediately following service all are invited for a light lunch at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to New Apostolic Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.
