Mary Margaret Furry

Mary Margaret Furry, 95, formerly of Tecumseh, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2021.

Born on March 14, 1926 near Odell, Ill., Mary was the daughter of Fred and Margaret (Semple) Muir and the oldest of four siblings, Charles F. Muir, James R. Muir and Katherine W. Butterfield, who all preceded her in death.

Mary married Howard Furry on October 4, 1959 and he passed on January 25, 2009. Together, they were active members of the Tecumseh community for nearly five decades including as faithful members of the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh and as dedicated volunteers at Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton.

Mary earned a B.S. degree from Illinois Wesleyan in 1948 and graduated from nursing school in 1951. She worked as a registered nurse for 40 years, starting in Chicago, then Ann Arbor and, for most of her career, at Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh, where she became head nurse of the emergency room.

Mary was a longtime member of the Little Garden Club of Tecumseh and served as the president of the American Red Cross of Lenawee County. She loved gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and playing bridge; spending time and traveling with family and friends; and was a healthy living role model, known for riding her bike around town and swimming several times a week well into her 80s.

All who know her will long remember her fiery, independent and infectiously positive spirit.

Surviving are her children, Margaret Ann (Randy) Seale of Carrollton, Texas and Lois Ann (Phil Knapman) Furry of Holt, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Alexander and Audrey Knapman of Holt.

Cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. Family suggests memorial donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh or Hidden Lake Gardens.
