Peter W. Barhydt

Peter W. Barhydt, a former Tecumseh resident, died in Norfolk, Va., on March 19, 2021.

Peter and his wife, Mary Lou, moved to Tecumseh in 1987, where they fully renovated the Satterthwaite home on Union Street.

While living in Tecumseh, Peter served as the president of the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce, chaired the Downtown Development Authority, and was active in the Tecumseh Historical Association.

Peter often drove his 1929 Chevrolet Fire Engine or his trolley in the Tecumseh parades.

  • UAW workers at Kirchhoff Automotive walked off their jobs Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. to protest poor working conditions, along with health and safety issues. Negotiations for a new contract have failed. Several picketers complained Monday of a new work schedule that begins at 4 a.m. for four-day, 10-hour shifts. Picketers also complained about longer hours, insufficient pay and difficulty in finding day care for children at the new starting time. Calls to Kirchhoff for comment Tuesday were not returned.
