Robert Lee Kroll

Robert Lee Kroll, age 92 of Tecumseh passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023 at home.

He was born on July 18, 1930 in Detroit, son of the late Harry John and Clara Anna (Hoeft) Kroll. Robert married his “honey,” Dolores Ruth Merians, on February 23, 1963 and God blessed them with almost 60 years together before her passing on December 12, 2022.

Robert worked for Michigan Bell (which later became Ameritech and is now AT&T) while earning his diploma from Wilbur Wright Vocational High School. Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines and then returned to Michigan Bell, retiring with 41 years of service.

He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. He was a loyal, devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and had the purest heart, warmest smile, and gave the best hugs. He was kind, gentle, jovial, and content, and was always there for everyone. He could build and fix anything — he even built the family’s first color TV. He enjoyed spending time outdoors boating, fishing, and working in his yard, but spending time with his wife and family were most important to him. Often, his time was spent waiting for his wife in the car at various quilt stores and fabric shops. He loved reading maps and driving to the next adventure, which usually included ice cream. He enjoyed canning tomatoes, freezing corn, and running to the store multiple times for missing ingredients on Christmas cookie baking day. He always had a lawn chair ready in case someone stopped while walking by and he enjoyed listening to what everyone had to say.

Robert is survived by his children, David (Corinne) Kroll and Kevin Kroll both of Redford; Sharon Kroll and Susan (John) VanBuhler, both of Tecumseh; sister, Karen Hansen of Canton; three grandchildren, Kelly (Jay) Hendricks of Dexter, Jeff Kroll of Laingsburg, and Zac Kroll of Six Lakes; and three great-grandchildren, Easton, Jase and Ayla Hendricks.

Visitation for Robert was at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, followed by funeral services with Pastor Ted Kerr officiating. Burial was on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. in Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.

In lieu of plants or flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Hospice of Lenawee. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be offered to the family at
