Robert Lewis Shroup

Robert Lewis Shroup, born in Wilkinsburg, Penn., a son of the late Gabriel Anthony and Marie Claire (Mangold) Shroup, lived a rich life, passing away at home on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the age of 87 with his family by his side. Married on October 25, 1958, in Irwin, Penn., he and his wife, Eleanor Ruth (Buettner) Shroup, shared over 63 years together. Along with his wife, Robert is survived by his children, Jeff (Trish) Shroup and Lynne (Linc) Smith, and two grandchildren, Hannah and Caleb Smith.

Generosity and kindness were the marks of Robert’s life. Whether through his service to his country in the U.S. Army, through his work as vice president of Fingerle Lumber Company, or with the many people that were part of his personal life, Robert lived in keeping with his own saying, “You take your lot in life and you build a service station on it.” As a talented businessman, craftsman, storyteller, cook, host, confidant, Robert was truly a renaissance man – and a calm, wise friend to everyone he met.

In accordance with Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services planned. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
