Roma Lee Fogelsong

Roma Lee Fogelsong, age 91, passed away peacefully in Tecumseh on November 15, 2022. Born in Elkhart, Ind., on August 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Thelma (Johnson) Sommers. She married her sweetheart, the late Leland George Fogelsong, on November 24, 1951 in Blissfield, and they shared 65 loving years together.

Roma, Leland and their family built the building at 214 E. Chicago Blvd., in Tecumseh, where they operated the Kitchen and Fabric Center from 1971-1991. They also owned Tecumseh Building Supply Company, where Roma skillfully designed kitchens for decades.

Roma was a member of the Tecumseh Riverbend Friends Church for over 65 years and also attended Covenant Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh. Roma’s main hobby after retirement was quilting, and she produced many beautiful quilts over the years, as can be attested by her family and friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. 

Roma is survived by her brothers, Ray and Dean Sommers; her son, Bruce (Norma) Fogelsong; her grandchildren, Andrew Fogelsong, Marc (Kara) Fogelsong, Kaitlin (Em Merrell) Fogelsong, Julia Fogelsong, and Anne (Bryan) McEldowney; great-grandchildren, Jude Ormsby, Benjamin Ormsby, Jacob McEldowney, A.J. McEldowney and Wyatt McEldowney; son-in-law, Mike Feight; grandson-in-law, Ross Ormsby. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her daughter Deborah Feight, her granddaughter Elizabeth Ormsby, and her sister Betty Bandy.

Visitation for Roma was held on Monday, Nov. 21, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Tecumseh Covenant Presbyterian Church at with Pastor Richard Mortimer and Pastor Mike Dennis officiating. Visitation was held prior to the service. Burial was at Ridgeway Cemetery, followed by a luncheon held at Tecumseh Riverbend Friends Church after the burial. Memorial contributions may be made to “The Learning Cove” in care of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be offered to the family to handlerfuneralhomes.com.
