Ruth Horky

Ruth Elaine Horky, 95, of Blissfield, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, at Hampton Manor of Adrian under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Lenawee.

Born August 8, 1928, she was the daughter of Lydia (Riebe) and Herman Mitchell born at home in Holloway, Mich.

On September 21, 1946, Ruth married William “Willie” F. Horky at North Blissfield Lutheran Church by Rev. William Weinlander. They were married for 66 years until his passing in September of 2012.

Ruth was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. Ruth and Willie enjoyed wintering in Marco Island, Fla. for 20 years. They also enjoyed attending polka dances and listening to polka music. Bowling took priority on Thursday evenings with Ruth belonging to the Blissfield Ma and Pa League as well as the Lenawee Rec Women’s League in Adrian. She also delivered Meals on Wheels with her daughter Beccy doing the running and delivery while Ruth drove fast to get the meals to the recipients while the meals were HOT. Her children claim you could never beat her at a stop light. She was also a member of the Tecumseh VFW Auxiliary. Ruth was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Ladies Circle.

Ruth is survived by her children, Robert “Bob” (Ann) Horky and Rebecca “Beccy” (Duane) Lamley; six grandchildren, Connie (Fred), Janell (Tom), Anthony (Marilyn), Kaitlyn, Rachel (Matt) and Caleb (Jennifer); eight great grandchildren and one great, great-granddaughter; and a sister, Ramora Plummer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie; sibling, Robert; and brother-in-law, Ron Plummer.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palmyra with Pastor Rick Hogan officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will take place at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
