Tecumseh Herald awarded in MPA contest

The Michigan Press Association (MPA) announced the winners of the 2015 MPA Awards on Friday, Jan. 29. The Tecumseh Herald and Homefront magazine received a total of nine awards, including first place for Homefront.

The Herald received an Honorable Mention for newspapers in the class C division, with circulations between 3,001 and 7,000. The honorable mention was given for the July 24, 2014 edition for Best Newspaper Design.

Anthony Alaniz won third place in the category of News Enterprise Reporting for his articles updating readers on information regarding the Tecumseh Products site. A judge wrote, “You really followed this story – way to stay on it.” Alaniz also won an honorable mention in the category of Feature Story category for his article, “A different normal.”

 

Mary Kay McPartlin won second place in the Feature Story  for “Cold case comes to Tecumseh.” A judge wrote, “Solid research and historical background helps bolster the retelling of an intriguing cold case.”

Homefront magazine was awarded first and third place in the Specialty Section category. For the first place finish, the 2015 Winter Homefront, a judge commented, “A clear cut winner on every level. This seasonal special section combines robust content with superb design. The section is engaging and interesting.”

For third place, the Spring 2015 Homefront, the judge wrote, “The Herald has the right formula for special sections. It is clean, well organized, and classy.”

Herald graphic designer Nanci Heiney won three different awards: first and third place for advertising in the category of New and Used Vehicles, and an honorable mention in the Restaurant category. 

For the first place advertisement, the judge commented, “Great ad! This ad is noticeable and makes me want to visit the car dealer!”
