Jean Weitenhagen

Jean Weitenhagen, age 90, of Tecumseh, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, with her daughter by her side, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility, Adrian, where she had been for the past year.  She was born in Adrian, Mich., on Oct. 1, 1920, the daughter of Evan and Eva (Pilotte) Francoeur.  She married Burton Weitenhagen, the love of her life, on May 26, 1945, and he preceded her in death on September 4, 2004.

Jean was a lifelong resident of the area and was a perfectly devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She leaves behind lasting memories and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Jean is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Stephen) Rupley of Adrian; and her grandsons, whom she adored and lived for,  Brandon (Kim) Raupp of Adrian and Cody Raupp of East Lansing.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers Evan, Byron and Edmund Francoeur.

At Jean’s request, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service to Celebrate her Life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes at 1 p.m. with Deacon Ray Wood of the United Vision Baptist Church in Toledo officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the time of the services.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Jean’s husband Burton.  Inurnment of her cremated remains will be in Brookside Cemetery at a later date.  Condolences may be offered to the family at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com.
