Anna M. Phelan

Anna Mary “Nancy” Phelan, age 100, of Tecumseh, Mich. passed away on November 24, 2023 at Cambrian Assisted Living with family by her side. She was born on June 25, 1923 in New Ross, Ireland, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Young) Coghlan. On April 7, 1958 she married Michael Phelan and they shared 45 years together before his passing in 2003. Nancy worked as a pharmacist in Ireland and Canada before moving to Georgia with her husband and then to Tecumseh. She has been a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church for 51 years. Nancy was an avid reader and was devoted to saying her rosary and numerous daily prayers for her loved ones. She cherished being known as “Grandma” Phelan to friends and family and looked forward to her weekly call to her sister Tess who lives in Ireland. Nancy enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and watching Michigan State basketball on TV. 

 
She is survived by her two sons, Mark Phelan of Ferndale, Mich. and John (Liz) Phelan of Tecumseh; a sister, Tess Lee of Celbridge, Ireland; two grandchildren, Emily (Josh Nowak) Phelan and Cormac Phelan, both of Tecumseh. Along with her husband and parents, Nancy is preceded in death by an infant son, Cormac Phelan; two brothers, Danny and Jimmy; and two sisters, Lena and Betty.

Visitation for Nancy was held on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 30 at the church with Fr. Dan Wheeler as celebrant. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Careline Hospice and Brittany Ames Scholarship Fund.
