Betty Stanley

Betty Stanley, age 92 of Tecumseh, Mich. passed away on Saturday Dec. 26, 2020 at Gaslight Assisted Living in Adrian, Mich. She was born September 9, 1928 in Nuremberg, Germany, the daughter of the late Joseph and Magdalene (Selig) Burzlauer. 

Betty grew up in Nuremberg, Germany and went to school in Heidelberg where she studied hotel management. She was going to work for her aunt at a hotel but met the love of her life, Thurman. They married in 1945 and shared over 35 years together before his death on July 26, 1981. Betty and Thurman moved to the area in 1948 to raise their family and she worked for Ford Motor Company in Saline where she retired. She was a member of the former First Baptist Church in Tecumseh.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Molly (Fred) Morgan of Tecumseh; sons, Walter (Sally) Stanley of Clearwater, Fla., Cecil (Cay) Stanley of Port Richie, Fla., and Frank Stanley of Onsted, Mich.; six grandchildren, Clint (Teresa) Stanley of Battle Creek, Mich., Renate (Daryl) Kempher of Jackson, Mich., Crissy (Scott) Cumberland of South Lyon, Mich., Julie Stanley of Jackson, Mich., Todd (Jennifer) Clark of Britton, Mich. and Sharon (Scott) Hawley of Tecumseh; 12 great-grandchildren, Colten Stanley, Paige Stanley, Autumn Stanley, Alex Muckensturm, Austin Clark, Natalie Hawley, Carson Hawley, Jack Cumberland, Chase Cumberland, Cate Cumberland, Easton Clark and Bowen Clark. Along with her parents and husband, Betty is preceded in death by her sister, Gundi Selig

Visitation for Betty was held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services were private at the funeral home. Pastor Tom Hawkins officiated.
