Bydetta Clay Morton

Bydetta Clay Morton, age 96, of Grand Rapids, Mich., formerly of Tecumseh, died on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Porter Hills Village in Grand Rapids. She was born January 3, 1924, in Irvine, Ky. to Fred and Birdia (Hall) Richardson.She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Ypsilanti, Mich. On June 27, 1942, she married Leonard Jay Morton in Detroit.  Together they raised five children.

Bydetta will be remembered fondly as a Godly woman who was a loving and committed wife, mother, Mammaw, sister and friend. All who know her would comment on her beautiful smile and her playful sense of humor.

Bydetta and Leonard were instrumental in starting the Miracle Church of the Nazarene in Saline, Mich. and were charter members there. She wrote and directed many programs for the church as well as sang duets with her husband in the services. After moving to Tecumseh, Bydetta and her husband became part of the church family at Freedom Christian Fellowship in Adrian, Mich. Bydetta continued worshiping there as long as she was able.

Bydetta is survived by four sons, Leon (Beth) Morton, Dan (Nancy) Morton, Garry (Jan) Morton, and Bruce (Victoria) Morton; her daughter, Lynnetta (Jim) Grissom; and a brother, Fred Richardson; 15 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, on December 25, 2003. She was also preceded by her parents; two brothers, Brook Richardson and Kenneth Richardson; her sister, Sylvia Jones; and one grandson, Clayton Morton.  

  
Graveside services for Bydetta will be private at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh with Art Horn officiating.
