Clinton second in TCC golf Jamboree, first at Manchester’s Invite

CLINTON — Clinton’s varsity golf team traveled to Britton Deerfield’s home course, the Raisin Valley Golf Club, for the third Tri-County Conference Jamboree of the season.

The Redskins scored 179 to finish second in the event behind first place Madison, who again won the Jamboree with a 172.

“Not sure what to say about today,” said Clinton coach Nito Ramos. “The team has been putting in the work on the course and on the range. I told them I think they are just trying to get too fine with their swings right now. They all can play well, but sometimes when you hit a poor shot it leads to more poor shots. I need to get them playing better that’s all there is to that.”

Austin Fauser had one birdie and five pars, carding 39 to lead the Redskins.

Clinton’s Jonathan Kersey carded 44, Kaden Kelly, 47 and Ryan Schanz, 49. Evan Shovels shot 49 while Anthony Fauser shot 55.

The Redskins won the 21st Annual Manchester Invite at Rustic Glen on Monday with a team score of 318.

Clinton had three of the top five golfers out of the seven-team event. “Wow, is all I can say about today. I’m so excited for the boys to have had the opportunity to play so well,” said Ramos. “They finally got to see that work they’ve been putting in pay off. Although this is an early round, they have raised the bar for themselves as a team and I couldn't be more proud of them.”

Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard was second (331) while Ann Arbor Greenhills was third (361). Rounding out the competing teams were Ida (379), Addison (382), Manchester (444) and Hanover Horton (000).

Fauser led Clinton with a 74, (1 eagle, 3 birdies, 9 pars). Kelly had 79, Shovels, 80, Kersey, 85 and Anthony Fauser, 87.
