Community pool is ‘loved and cherished,’ needs voter support

To the Editor,

To my fellow community members of Tecumseh, I have had the pleasure of living in Tecumseh for 15 years. Through my journey here, I have found a place that I call home. I have been involved in the Tecumseh Community Pool Family for the past nine years. Both of my children learned to swim there and both continue to participate in the youth programs that are offered. My family has participated in the TMS, THS, Tigershark and TTSUSA travel teams. And more recently, I have signed myself up for the USA Master’s Swimming Program for adults. Chlorine is in our veins quite literally.

I was very involved in the push for our current millage that is assisting the maintenance and operation of our community pool. I have been president of the non-profit organization, Friends of the Tecumseh Community Pool, for several years. My board and I would like to take the time to thank all those who came out in support of such a wonderful highlight in our community. When you come to the pool there’s an acceptance that comes along with the chlorine. You become a family.

Our pool is not the fanciest around, but boy, is it loved and cherished. Since our pool is aging, we need to maintain it. Several of the elements it takes to run a pool are needing some TLC or needing to be replaced. The school district would like to collaborate with the community to improve the TCP facility. The school district is asking for a .25 mill from our community. This really isn’t a lot of money per family. It would average $25 a year per family! That’s it! For all that this pool offers to our community, I would hope that you would consider coming out and voting yes for the Recreation Millage that will be used solely toward the Tecumseh Community Pool’s maintenance and operation.

Please take the time to look into the programs the Tecumseh Community Pool has to offer. It truly does have something for everyone. From beginning lessons, team/club sports, lap swim, club and travel diving, senior swim, open swim, water polo, master’s swim and much more! Please come check it out! Thank you for your yes vote on March 8, 2016.

President, Friends of the Tecumseh Community Pool
