Cora Eileen Alcock

BRITTON — Cora Eileen Alcock, age 78, of Britton, Mich., passed away on June 19, 2026, at Bridgeway Park Assisted Living in Tecumseh surrounded by her family. She was born on Nov. 11, 1947, in Tecumseh, a daughter of the late Merrill James and Hazel Irene (Beevers) Murphy.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose greatest joy in life was caring for those she loved. As a boy mom, she excelled in the ability to “let them be boys” with acres of “carpet farming,” wrestling matches, greasy carburetors on the kitchen table and a fair amount of teasing. She welcomed her daughters-in-law as her own and embodied what it means to be a mother-in-law. She treasured every moment spent with her family and took immense pride in supporting her grandchildren in all of their activities, from athletics to 4-H and everything in between. Her family was the center of her world and she always made sure they were fed.

Cora had many talents but cooking and gardening topped the list. She could make a meal from nearly anything and enjoyed having her own garden harvest to share with friends and family. Cora dedicated many years to serving her community. She worked for 10 years in the cafeteria at Britton Schools, where she enjoyed caring for and getting to know the students she served. She also worked as a phlebotomist for the University of Michigan’s Bone Health Study, where her compassion and commitment touched the lives of many. One of her biggest accomplishments was assisting with building Alcock Drilling from the ground up.

A faithful member of Britton Grace United Methodist Church, Cora actively shared her talents and generous spirit. She was well known for contributing her cooking and baking to church events and activities, helping bring people together through fellowship and food. She will be remembered for unwavering devotion to family, strong faith and humble demeanor. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.

Cora is survived by her two sons, Troy (Melanie) Alcock of Britton and Todd (Elizabeth) Alcock of Tecumseh, and her four grandchildren, Hannah, Eva, Connor and Jaret Alcock. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Jim, Jerry, Duaine and Orin Dale Murphy and Karen Hyder.

A funeral service for Cora took place on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Grace United Methodist Church in Britton. Visitation was Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes and until the time of the service on June 25 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or Grace United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
