Darlene J. Yager

Darlene Joy Yager, age 61 of Onsted passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023 at home with her family by her side. She was born July 2, 1962 in Tecumseh, the daughter of Henry Alfred and Betty Ruth (Pask) Strand. On August 19, 1989 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh she married Bruce Justin Yager and they have shared 34 years together.
Darlene was Catholic by faith. She attended the elementary school at St. Elizabeth and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1980. She worked for a time at the Tecumseh Public Library and LISD VoTech. She enjoyed arts and crafts, being in nature, and music.
Besides her husband, Bruce, Darlene is survived by her children, Janéa (Trevor) Ford of Tecumseh and Rathe (Samia) Yager of Leamington, Ontario; sisters, Donna Logan of Tecumseh, Joann DeClercq of Adrian, Marcelle Nolan of Adrian, and Tina (Ivan) Eberly of Brooklyn; brothers, Terrence (Mary) Strand of Clinton, Mark (Bertha) Strand of Tecumseh and Mitchell Strand of Eaton Rapids; a step-sister, Wanda Macomb of Ann Arbor; and five grandchildren, Blaize, Armani and Mila of Tecumseh, Madison and Aiden of Leamington, Ontario. Besides her parents, Henry Strand and Betty DeSautel, she was preceded in death by sisters, Carol Whelan and Sonja Rheese; brother, Henry “Fred” Strand; brothers-in-law, Bob Logan, Michael Whelan, Bob Rheese, Kevin Nolan and Greg DeClercq; step-father, Hank DeSautel; and best friend, Jennifer Russell.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Dec. 17, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at on Monday, Dec. 18 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh with Fr. Daniel Wheeler as celebrant. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton and Hospice of Lenawee. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
