Edith Coates
Edith “Edie” L. Coates, age 79, of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away on August 31, 2025. Edith was born on August 12, 1946 in Connellsville, Penn. to the late Andrew and Milbro (Black) Whipkey. A 1964 graduate of Connellsville Senior High School, she moved to Tecumseh upon her marriage to Larry Coates on August 2, 1972. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1998.
After retiring from Tecumseh Public Schools, Edie worked for several years at Busch’s in Tecumseh, Mich.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Edie is survived by two sons, Neil (Megan) Coates of Morenci, Mich., and Keith (Margo) Coates of Blacklick, Ohio, and six grandchildren; Emily, Annali, Alivia, Nathan, Jack, and Charles. Edie was a friend to everyone she met.
In addition to her husband, Larry, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2025 at Purse & Son Funeral Home, Tecumseh, Mich., with Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Garden, Tecumseh, Mich.
Visitation will also be held Monday, Sept. 8, 2025 at Purse & Son Funeral Home, Tecumseh, Mich. from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service.
