To the Editor,

Tecumseh Middle School 5th grade students had two teams that participated in the Tri-County Science Olympiad held at Siena Heights University on March 15th.  Eighteen students attended the event, coached by Mrs. Kintner and Mrs. Bobrowski.

There were seven events on the day of the tournament.  Students were quizzed on science and math concepts at the event.  The seven events were Energy Box, Science Bowl, Starry Starry Night, Rock Hound, No Bones About It, Mystery Architecture and Grasp a Graph.

For one of the events students made an “Energy Box.”  These were constructed by the students, and were built to retain heat without using any outside energy sources.  The two Teumseh teams earned a 1st and 4th place in this event.

The following received first place medals:  Jordan Kreger, Kara Warman, Paul Mallory (2), Nate Coleman, Tyler Sterling, Jessica Tebbetts, Andrew Entrup, and Reid Bakus.
Second place medal was received by Reid Bakus.

Third place medals were received by:  Crystal Scales, Jordan Kreger, Cody Wilkins, Kami Piekarek, Lauren Carrier and Jarrett Oldeck.

Other team members included Alexis Mauricio, Ryan Scherlitz, Keirstin Prochaska, Taylor Vanderpool, and Payten Baughey.

Besides individual event medals there were also team rankings.  Tecumseh Black Team was awarded first place overall.  It was a very exciting morning and it was only made possible with the help of parent volunteers:  Mr. Mauricio, Mrs. Mauricio, Mrs. Entrup, and 8th grade teacher Mr. Lewis. It was a very important and exciting day for all the schools that participated in the event.
