Elden L. Cattell

ADRIAN — It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elden LeRoy Cattell, age 81, who passed away on June 4, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Elden was born on March 31, 1945, in Toledo to the late Everett and Gertrude (Roney) Cattell. He was the youngest of six children raised in Adrian. On Oct. 5, 1968, he married Brenda Sprague at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Adrian. Together they shared nearly 58 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family and adventure.

Elden graduated from Adrian High School in 1965 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from the Hawk Continuous Wave CW Radar Repair school. During his military service, he spent one year stationed in the United States, one year in Germany and one year in Vietnam. Following his service, Elden built a long career with General Motors, retiring in 2005. Throughout that time, he continued to seek out opportunities to further his education in electronics, small engine repair and computers.

Elden dedicated over 40 years to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Mounted Division and also served as a reserve deputy for the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office. Many of his years as a mounted deputy were spent with his faithful horse and partner, Smoky’s Conny Jo, who never let him down. Always eager to help others and rarely one to pass up an adventure, Elden spent 35 years working security at Michigan International Speedway, where he made many dear friends.

He had a deep love for Michigan’s north woods and cherished the time he spent there with his family. An avid outdoorsman and adventurer, Elden enjoyed exploring trails on horseback, motorcycles, snowmobiles and dune buggies. He also loved traveling with his family, visiting nearly every state in the country as well as Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Ireland. Among his favorite adventures were riding horses across the state of Michigan on the Shore to Shore ride with his family, camping with his wife and kids for a month-long journey across the western United States and Canada, and riding motorcycles with his wife, Brenda, all the way to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Known for his generosity and kindness, Elden found great joy in sharing what he had and in seeing others happy. He especially loved hosting the annual family canoe trip at his cabin in Harrison, creating treasured memories for generations of family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Elden was preceded in death by his brothers, Louis and Raymond; his sisters, Lucille Ragless and Leona (Bob) Ashenfelter; and his sister-in-law, Karen Cattell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Brenda; his brother, Don Cattell; his children, Jane Cattell, Sarah (Tim) Holtz, and Ted (Karena) Cattell; seven grandchildren, Montgomery, Vena, Brosnan, Assumpter (Drake), Judea, Ambrose and Perpetua; two great-grandsons, Roman and Declan; many nieces and nephews as well as many other family members and friends who will dearly miss him.

Elden’s life was marked by service, adventure, generosity and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Friends and family are welcome to visit on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m., at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian, Michigan.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Father Todd Koenigsknecht officiating and visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. at the church.

Elden will be laid to rest at Lime Creek Cemetery, Munson Highway, Hudson. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 97 of Adrian.
