Evelyn Louise Carswell

ADRIAN — Evelyn Louise Carswell, age 89, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at home under the care of Hospice of Lenawee.

Evelyn was born on Feb. 8, 1937, in Beckley, W.Va., the daughter of Crosby Merle and Bertha (Arthur) McMillion. She married Louis J. Carswell on Dec. 23, 1957, in North Carolina, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1992.

Evelyn loved spending time outdoors in the Tecumseh area. She enjoyed kayaking at the Tecumseh Paddling Co. and made many friends there. Evelyn was fortunate enough to spend many hours observing the albino whitetail deer that lived in the area and was instrumental in memorializing its passing with a memorial rock that is placed at Indian Crossing Trails Park. She enjoyed crocheting and taking hot air balloon rides with her grandson Quincy. Evelyn had lived near the Tecumseh Airport and had the opportunity on several occasions to catch a ride with the airplane that transported parachuters and would even pick up the unlucky parachuters that landed off course and drove them back to the airport.

She is survived by her son, Dirk Carswell; brother, Ernie (Mary) McMillion; four grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Deatrick, Jessica Barnhill, Kristen Claus and Quincy (Nicole) Carswell; and four great-grandchildren, Bree Deatrick, Jermane Shead, Nevaeh McGowan and Zaire McGowan. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Kirk Carswell; and sisters-in-law, Faye Carswell and Billie Carswell. 

Funeral services for Evelyn will be private. Burial will occur at Oakwood Cemetery.

Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of memorial contributions, the family asks that those moved to do so may donate a puzzle to ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Evelyn’s memory.
