Frederick J. “Fred” Withrow
Frederick J. “Fred” Withrow died peacefully at Tecumseh Place with dementia on Sunday, May 16, 2021. His wife Barb was at his side.
He was born at home June 23, 1945. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1964. Fred enlisted in the Navy Seabees January 1966. Sent to Vietnam twice and was honorably discharged December 1969.
Married his loving wife, Barb, on May 2, 1970. He graduated from Washtenaw Community College in April 1973 with honors and an associate degree in mechanics.
Fred got a job at Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan in May 1973. He was a test driver/mechanic for 28 years and took an early retirement in February 2001.
He loved to travel with his wife, they went south for the winter in their fifth-wheel for 17 years. They also traveled to other countries including Australia, Peru, Argentina and Mexico.
He also loved fixing things in his garage, gardening, loved people and no one was a stranger to Fred. He was a Godly man, was baptized and attended United Church of God AIA for 45 years.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Sr. and Edna Withrow; brothers, Harry Jr., Jack and Don Withrow; sisters, Vernita Kopke and Helen Withrow.
He is survived by his wife Barb of 51 years; sisters, Beulah Dermeyer of Tecumseh and RoseAnn Herriman of Florida; brothers, Eugene Withrow of Adrian and Arnold Withrow of Idaho.
A memorial service will be held on June 5, at 1 p.m. at Heritage Hall, United Church of God, Ann Arbor, 9450 Austin Rd., Bridgewater, Michigan, 48176.
