George Ronald Stangl,

George Ronald Stangl, age 85, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2020 at home with his family by his side. He was born January 7, 1935 in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late George Robert and Alma Irene (Hunt) Stangl. On March 21, 1975 he married Charmaine Mallery and they shared 45 years together. Ron had a long teaching career in Ann Arbor Public Schools as well as teaching Science Methods at EMU and Adrian College and Teaching Methods at U of M. After retirement he taught for 5 years at Emerson School in Ann Arbor. He was passionate about teaching and equally passionate about learning.
His interests were deep and wide: science, math, philosophy, psychology, art, literature, music, politics, religion.
He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed on to his children and grandchildren a deep love of nature. They cherish countless memories of hiking in the woods, canoeing, fishing and exploring. Art and science museums and great theater performances are a close second. Most important of all he passed onto them his deep belief in justice, fairness and kindness toward all humanity. We will always remember him for all that he taught us as a lifelong learner and compassionate human being.
Besides his wife, Charmaine, he is survived by his children: Terri Stangl (Moshe) of Branford, Conn., Mark Stangl (Carrie) of Saline, Amber Linoski (Allen) of Royal Oak and Kate Lindenmuth (Kevin) of Jackson; a sister, Gail Witter (Wayne) of Belleville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Ryan Enderes, Zachary Cook, Alia Wolken and Drew Blake; and one great-grandchild, Evi Enderes.
