GREGORIO VELA JR.

Gregorio Vela, Jr., 55, of Adrian, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at his home. He was born January 2, 1953 in Robstown, Texas, to Gregorio and Eloisa (Martinez) Vela Sr.  

Gregorio worked for Clean Environment Services until his retirement in 2004. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Gregorio enjoyed fishing, baseball, hunting and watching western movies.

He is survived by his father, Gregorio Vela, Sr.; the mother of his children, Rosalinda Vela; two sons, Israel (Heather) Vela of Marion, MI; Gregorio Vella III of Adrian; three daughters, Irma Vela of Clayton, Lydia Rozelle (Ricardo Perez) of Clayton, Diana Vela of Jackson; three brothers, Eusebio (Dominga) Vela of Fort Myers, FL, Eloy (Maria) Vela of Robstown, TX, Ruben (Juana) Vela of Robstown, TX; six sisters, Marilenna (Leonardo) Ruiz, of Robstown, TX, Mary Lou (Mario) Romero of Robstown, TX, Elia Vela Vecrrano of Robstown, TX, Dora Vela (Joe Torres) of Immokalee, FL, Anita Vela (Alberto Piceno) of Oneonta, AL, and Olga Campbell of Naples, FL; and 17 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eloisa Martinez, two great-grandsons, Mario Vargas and Rodney Lopez, Jr., and one sister, Olga Vela.

The Funeral Liturgy for Gregorio was held on Monday, February 11, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Bob Schramm presiding. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation was at the Anderson Funeral Home. A vigil prayer service was held on Sunday evening at the Anderson Funeral Home.
