James H. Colson

James Homer Colson, age 93, of Tecumseh, Mich. passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024 at the Hospice of Lenawee Home in Adrian, Mich. He was born on July 7, 1931 in Tecumseh, a son of the late Homer and Lela (Hope) Colson.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and then spent two years of college at Michigan State University. He worked in the Engineering Records Dept. of Tecumseh Products for several years before retiring in the late 80s. On June 27, 1959 he married Dolores “Dee” E. Peterson and they shared 46 years together before her passing in 2005.

Jim was a founding member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh where he was very active. He was also an avid golfer along with his wife and was a member of the Raisin Valley Golf Club. He spent a lot of time volunteering with the Civitan Club, loved swimming, traveling around the world with Dee, spending time in the yard, but most of all, he always put family first and loved spending time with them.

Jim is survived by two sons, Marc Colson of Brooklyn, Mich. and Tom (Jenni) Colson of Adrian, Mich.; six grandchildren, Ken (Houda) Colson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Quin Colson and Maggie (Zach) Gentner, both of Manitou Beach, Mich., and Lucas Colson, Emily Colson and James Colson, all of Adrian, Mich.; and two great-grandchildren, Kieran and Rhoby Gentner. Along with his parents and wife, Jim is preceded in death by a son, David Colson and two brothers, Richard and Jack Colson.

Cremation has taken place and services will be private. Inurnment will be in Brookside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
