John Gary Mitchell
John Gary Mitchell (G-Dog and Papa), age 79, beloved husband, stepfather, and grandfather, passed away peacefully, March 20, 2026, at his home in Tecumseh, Mich., after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Gary was born March 30, 1946, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and moved to Michigan as a young boy.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Cynthia, his stepchildren, Bryan Jones and Melissa Ackermann, and three cherished grandchildren, Kamren, Logan, and Rowan. He is also survived by his sisters, Cheryl Winters and Connie Mitchell and a brother, David Sissom.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He loved his life — and cherished every moment working on his farm, and perfecting his swing on the golf course. He was always the person who could fix or repair anything, and the love and care he gave to all of his family will be greatly missed.
Rest peacefully. You will always be loved.
Based on Gary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held at his home on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
