Larry G. Gittus

Larry Gene Gittus, 77, of Tecumseh, Mich. passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024. He was born in Tecumseh, Mich. in 1946 to Leon Edward and Lola Virginia (Stewart) Gittus. He grew up in Deerfield, Mich. and graduated from Deerfield High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and serving in the Vietnam War.

Larry married Ranee Louise (Doremus) more than 55 years ago and together they raised three sons, Tom (Jodie), Scott (Danelle), and Chad (Brittany Pohl) Gittus and enjoyed their grandchildren, Hayden, Katie, Spencer, Brenna, Keith, Sterling, Dylan, and Cole.

Larry worked at the Britton Elevator in Britton, Mich. for many years. He made many friends while working there and took pride in his role in ensuring local farmers had successful crops each year.

Larry enjoyed his time as a Boy Scout leader when his boys were young and was often seen quietly observing many Tecumseh Indian sporting events through the years. He also enjoyed attending his grandkids’ games, dance recitals, and choir performances.

Friends and neighbors will miss seeing him rocking on his patio and waving as they drive by his house.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife Ranee, his siblings, and parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice are appreciated. A memorial service for Larry will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Purse Martinez Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh, with Military Honors performed by Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and Tecumseh VFW Post #4187 Funeral Honors Team. 

Visitation will also take place Saturday, Aug. 10, at Purse Martinez Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service.
