Larry Oldeck

Larry Oldeck, loving husband of Theresa, died peacefully at home on February 12, 2024, surrounded by family. Larry was born at home to Joseph and Dorothy Oldeck on August 18, 1941, in Saginaw, Mich. They moved to Oscoda, Mich. in 1952 and settled in the little village of Footsite, Mich. Larry graduated from Oscoda High School in 1959 and attended Central Michigan University. He had many jobs along the way but his apprenticeship in IBEW Local 557 launched his career as a master electrician. Larry earned his 50-year pin from the union in 2018 and retired in 2000. His “brothers and sisters” from the union remained loyal friends throughout his life.

In 1985 Larry met Theresa, the love of his life, and they married on May 13, 2000. Together they raised all five children as one loving family, Brenda Oldeck, Mike (Wendy) Oldeck, Mark (Deanne) Oldeck, Jessica (Jason) Hart and Robert (Amanda) Moore. One of Larry’s best memories was “kids week,” one week each summer with all the grandchildren at once, Stephanie, Kayleen, Jarrett, Shelby, Anna, Ally and Robby (R2).

Larry loved his life. You could find him hunting deer, ducks, geese, or pheasants each season. He enjoyed fishing with his wife (and others) until the sun went down. He also enjoyed playing his guitar, singalongs, bonfires late into the night and parties with his family and friends.

Larry is survived by his family and his little dog, Zoey, along with his brother Joe and his sister. He is reunited in heaven with his parents and sister, along with many other family and friends.

A celebration of life is being planned for early spring to remember this amazing man — Larry John Oldeck. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
