Leroy D. DeJonghe

Leroy Dean DeJonghe, age 85, of Britton, Mich. passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on February 4, 1939 in Blissfield Twp., Mich., a son of the late Morris and Exelene L. (Upell) DeJonghe. On June 20, 1959 in Tecumseh, Mich., he married Patricia Nell Wainwright and they shared over 64 years together until her passing in 2019.

Leroy was an avid woodworker and spent many hours tinkering in his shop and also enjoyed camping with his wife. Leroy supervised many jobs over the years and was loved and respected by all who worked for him. Leroy was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Saline Retired Iron Tractor Club.

Leroy is survived by his two sons, Douglas (Barbara) DeJonghe of Tecumseh and Micheal (Amy) DeJonghe of Britton, Mich.; siblings, Lyle DeJonghe of Britton, Larry DeJonghe of Tecumseh,  Leslie (Annie) DeJonghe of Britton, and Lorraine DeJonghe of Ridgeway; four grandchildren, Brian (Tiffany) DeJonghe, Ashley (Shawn) Florence, Nathan (Aubrey) DeJonghe and Adam DeJonghe; six great-grandchildren, Aiden and Brielle Florence, Brantley and Peyton DeJonghe and Emma and Aria DeJonghe. Along with his parents and wife he is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Faust and a brother, Leverett DeJonghe.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Hawkins officiating.
