Pool helped child grow from struggling swimmer to state champion

To the Editor,

My name is Kelli Roberts. My daughter, Karlee Marsh, has been a swimmer for Tecumseh since she was five years old.

I am asking residents to please vote yes for the renewal on March 8, 2016.

The community pool is an amazing place. One where children learn to swim, lifelong friends are made, kids learn to save lives and challenge themselves. It is where they learn valuable life lessons and coaches become another strong adult figure children know they can turn to when life becomes hard. The coaches and staff at the pool have taught my daughter many things about herself and the type of person she wants to be. They have taught her how to set goals and stop at nothing until she achieves them.

I have watched Karlee go from a sweet five-year-old who struggled at her first practice (and I mean really struggle) to grow into a state champion with dreams of swimming in college. It brings me, as well as every other parent, such pride to watch these swimmers set goals and achieve them. We find ourselves cheering for each other’s children. We welcome them all into our homes, feed them after practices and love all of them like our own. It is a family. A swim family.

The growth of this team is amazing. It is so exciting to think about the younger swimmers coming up to high school in the next few years and all they will accomplish and the titles they will bring home. Our swim family has also shown this community how we come together in a time of crisis. Parents, as well as the swimmers, have learned how to grieve for the loss of a friend, how to be there for each other and support each other.

Tecumseh needs this pool. The kids need this pool. Families need this pool. Please vote yes on March 8.
