Roger A. Yarhouse

Roger Alan Yarhouse, age 90, of Tecumseh Mich., went to be with his Lord at home on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025. He was born on December 13, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Walter and Margaret “Peggy” (Bolles) Yarhouse. Roger graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and then went on to get his master’s degree at Santa Clara University. He was joined in marriage to Shyla Grace Thomas in Phoenix, Ariz. on December 22, 1961 and they celebrated 63 years together.

Roger worked in sales for the refrigeration division of Tecumseh Products. He was a faithful member of Grace Point Evangelical Free Church and served on the Board of Elders for many years. Roger was a dedicated participant in Community Bible Study and even traveled with Shyla to New Zealand in order to support leaders for Community Bible Study International. During their years in Clermont, Fla. he and Shyla brought Real Life Church services to two assisted living facilities. He loved playing with and supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1991 Roger and Shyla started an annual family vacation tradition which continues to this day. He also loved to follow sports, and was a special supporter for the Pittsburgh Steelers and for Penn State athletics.

Roger is survived by his wife, Shyla; three children, Jane (David) Yarhouse of Tecumseh; Jenny (Mike) Oberst of Tecumseh; and  Mark (Lori) Yarhouse of Winfield, Ill.; brother, Neil “Bud” Yarhouse of Southbury, Conn.; six grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Fink of Dallas, N.C., Megan (Alex) Thompson of Clinton, Mich, Lynnea Yarhouse of Atlanta, Ga., Peter Yarhouse of Chesapeake, Va., David Oberst of Tecumseh, and Celia Yarhouse of Winfield, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Alex Jr., Shyla, and Benjamin Thompson; and niece, Kate (David Bragg) Yarhouse of Montclair, N.J.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his aunt, Jane Black.

According to Roger’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Point Evangelical Free Church at a date to be determined, please check the funeral home website for the date. Memorial contributions in honor of Roger may be made to The Daily Bread of Lenawee where he served for many years.
